Update from PGL

The PGL Diaries 1: Tuesday and Wednesday morning

Hello and greetings from Boreatton Park! We have had a great first 24 hours and are raring to go for the rest of the break. We left school at 10 am yesterday and made good time to Sandwell Country Park. We ate our picnic by a lake, where Sonny and Jessica regaled us with information about the different birds that were on show, before we had time in the park. Miss Cale then set up a very competitive game of rounders, which was a first for many of our children. Alice and Adam both impressed with their catching skills, while Monty was the first person to hit two rounders. All the children felt they could wield a bat better than Mr Beech though!

We arrived at PGL at 4pm and had time to settle into our rooms and be shown around the site. The children were soon hungry, and we had a great first evening meal of either spag bol, peri peri chicken or vegetarian kiev. Our evening activity was around the camp fire, and it was a wonderful bonding experience to sit in the woods, singing songs and playing games together, illuminated by the flames.

We have all spent the morning canoeing on the river Perry. We were really pleased that all the children made the decision to get on the water, which was wonderful to see. Mr Beech, Dermott and Edward were teamed up together and we loved overtaking the other boats! Nancy was the first person who managed to fall in, although she soon got back in her canoe. Nancy and her canoe-mates, Renee, Emma and Megan, became known as the nightmare canoe for their inability to paddle straight and for the fact they repeatedly collided with the bank! Miss Cale and her canoe team of Monty and Adam managed to start the pond weed wars, much to the annoyance of her group, but they all got their own back on her!

This afternoon we will be taking part in two activities of either Climbing, Orienteering, Zip Wire and Trapeze, and we will end our day with a game of Ambush, which is an adventurous variation of hide and seek.
