This week in Hereford Class
Welcome back to Autumn 2. I hope that you all had a fantastic half term break after a very long first term. I am looking forward to all the plans we have in store for the next term.
This week we start a new English Unit on Non-Chronological Reports. Year 2 will be 'mind-mining' moles and recapping all their Geography learning from Term 1 where they studied the country of Brazil. We will all be looking at Non-Chronological Reports based on Brazil and understanding the features through text marking. We will also box up a non-chronological report and gain an understanding of the different grammatical features.
In Maths we are all adding. Year 2 will be adding ones to two digit numbers and Year 1 will be writing and calculating number sentences (adding within 20).
We start a new Amberley Immersion Curriculum topic. We will be Historians, studying WWII. We will be learning about who was involved in the war, why it started and what life was like for children, particularly evacuees. Please see the overview on our class page for information on the key knowledge and vocabulary that we will study.
This term, in RE, we start a new unit on 'What Does It Mean To Belong To A Faith Community.' We will start the unit by looking at our new Christian Value focus of Service, using the parable of Queen Esther serves her people. Please refer to the BLOG for more information about how you can support with this at home.
The Nativity Performance licence and materials have been ordered and we will begin to practise the songs very shortly. The children will then all be allocated parts to play in our Nativity Performance, which will be held at 2pm and 6pm at the church on Wednesday 13th December 2023 - a date for your diaries. Year 2 will have the lead, speaking parts whilst Year 1 support with their acting and singing. I cannot wait for the Christmas festivities to begin!
