This week in Hereford Class
Well, we are certainly back into the swing of things and school life is really busy!
This week we are continuing our instruction writing journey in English. We are breaking it down and writing it into sections and will practise this over a couple of sets, making sandwiches, brushing teeth, getting ready for school - they'll be experts in these areas so will be interesting to see if this changes your morning routines!
In Maths, we continue with place value and we are representing numbers using 10s and 1s. Year 1 will do this to 20, whilst Year 2 will do this to 100.
Year 1 children will continue their transition and utilise Dexter class in the afternoons but will be in Hereford Class full time from next week (WC 25.11) - prepare for some very tired children! Then we will start a new Science Unit of 'Seasons.'
In the Amberley Immersion Curriculum this week, Year 2 will begin an Art Unit - Mark Making. We will be learning the skills of adding lines, dots, using tints and tones all whilst colouring neatly, applying this to both butterflies and beetles. We are excited to invite Mrs Penn into the classroom to see our final art work. We hope she'll be proud of our final projects.
Clubs will begin WC 25th November and you should have received the clubs list on Friday. Please help your children sign up to the clubs and discuss committing to the club for the term. Children are unable to pick and choose the sessions that they come to and should attend each week, unless there are other circumstances which means this isn't possible.
Year 2 children will be elected today and the two children who win the election will attend their first school council meeting.
A reminder: Phonics evening will be held on Wednesday 4th October from 5.30pm. This is a really valuable evening for those children in Year 1 as they will sit a statutory phonics screening check in June 2024.
