This week in Hereford Class

WOW! What a start to the term it has been. Hot weather and new routines for lots of children. I would like to take this opportunity to say well done to Hereford Class for coming back with such amazing attitudes. Last week was a real pleasure and it was so lovely to spend some time getting to know the new Year 1 children. Year 2 have been great role models to the Year 1s and have been showing, guiding and explaining the routines to them.

Please could you remind your children to bring in both their reading books and water bottles. We would like these in the classroom every day so that they are easily accessible.

This week, we continue with our instruction writing. We made sandwiches last week and will be writing instructions on how to make these, using all that we have been taught: titles, chronological order, subtitles, verbs and (Year 2) adverbs of time/to show how. I have been so impressed with their knowledge and how much they have remembered from their previous year's teaching.

In maths we are looking at the place value of numbers and understanding how 2 digit numbers are made up of 10s and 1s. Year 1 will be working with numbers to 20 and Year 2, up to 100. We will be partitioning numbers, showing our understanding of place value.

Year 1 children will continue their transition and will utilise the Dexter classroom in the afternoons with both Mrs Penn and Mrs Lury's support. Year 2 will continue with the Amberley Immersion Curriculum (AIC) where we will be looking at our topic of Country - Brazil. We will be looking at the continents and its capital city. We will explore both human and physical features and identifying what makes a location a village, town or city.

In RE we begin our unit on Creation, understanding the Christian belief that God made the world.

You should have all received our Hereford Class letter as well as the phonics' evening letter. The phonics evening is more aimed at Y1 children however, for children reading phase 4/5 books in Year 2, this will also benefit them as it explains our approach to teaching phonics and ways and resources to support at home. Please return the slip so that we are aware of numbers for the evening.

If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me.
