This week in Hereford Class
In RE this week, we are looking at how Christians show their love for God, linking this to last week's lesson of belief. We are going to be thinking about what Christians believe about God being a loving father and how he shows his love. For example, he always forgives Christians by welcoming back when they have made mistakes.
In English we are going to be writing our own stories. Now that we have written Hansel and Gretel, we will be using this structure to write our own stories, using different characters, problems and resolutions. We had so much fun planning this and changing our character from being pushed into the oven into other brutal and terrifying ways!
In maths, we will be taught strategies to calculate division. Year 1 children will be using 'peas on plates' to share amounts fairly. Year 2 will be using arrays to calculate these and then move on to using their multiplication knowledge to calculate quickly and accurately. Please continue to practise the children's multiplication tables (2,5 and 10 to begin with) to allow them chance to rapidly recall their tables. This will really help with their knowledge of division, allowing them to make links (as well as our rapid recall challenge, which the children love!)
Please can I remind you to ensure that you are reading the home school books sent home each day. These books are provided to match the sounds and rules that your children have been taught so it is really important that they are getting access to these. Please comment on their fluency in their books as it is important that we ask children to re-read books to improve their fluency if needed.
