This week in Hereford Class

Welcome back to Autumn 2! I hope that you all had a fantastic half term!

This term is the busiest term of all... the lead up to Christmas and the Nativity! I have ordered the Nativity licence and this will be in full swing over the next few weeks, ready for our performance in the church on Wednesday 8th December (details will follow).

As we return to school we will be starting a variety of new learning journeys.

We will be exploring the big question of what does it mean to belong to a faith community? This week we will look at the different communities that we belong to. This links really well to our previous learning in PSHE so we will be looking at making connections.

In Maths, Year 2 will be looking at adding a multiple of 10 to any 2 digit number whilst Year 1 will look at ordinal numbers.

In English, we start a new learning journey where we will be exploring non-chronological reports. We will be finding the features of these types of reports (by text marking a report about Marcus Rashford) and then looking at understanding the structure and order. We will then go on to write reports about the Seasons, which links back to our Science: Seasons topic.

Year 2 parents, during the first week back, the children will undergo their phonics' screening assessment which they did not complete last year due to the pandemic. Please ensure that you have practised reading the alien words, which were sent home over the half term break.

PE and Outdoor Learning will continue as usual on Fridays but please can I ask that the children do not wear their PE kit for this. As the weather gets worse, the children get muddy. This often means that they are wearing muddy kit for PE which is not suitable. Wellies are also needed as the area in which they do Outdoor Learning does get boggy!

Finally, I have scheduled a trip for Wednesday 17th November 2021 to 'We the Curious' to link with our topic of 'Humans' in Science. A letter regarding this will be sent out this week so please look out for it and return it at your earliest convenience.
