This Week in Friesian Class

This week, we will be moving from addition to subtraction in our maths lessons. Year 3 will be investigating patterns and mental strategies for subtraction when crossing boundaries of tens and hundreds. Year 4 will be looking at formal methods of subtraction and will be developing their understanding of exchanging between columns.

In English, we will be writing our own version of 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Bilit, and will be looking in particular at using subordinate clauses to extend our sentences and make our writing more interesting, and using paragraphs to organise our work. I have added a downloadable copy of our SPACED IT sentence openings resources, and the images to remind children of the different conjunctions that can be used, to our class webpage as per requests at parents evening.

In spelling, Year 3 will be adding the suffix -ly to words ending and in y, and Year 4 will be using the prefix inter-.

In our immersion curriculum time, we will be starting a two week block working as scientists, where we will learn about sound. We will be investigating how the ear works, and how sound travels and will culminate our learning with a challenge to create ear defenders!

It was so lovely to be able to catch up with you all during parents' evening last week. If you have anything further you would like to discuss, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
