This week in Dexter class

Welcome back! We hope that you have all had a good half term break and weren't too swept away by all the wind!

This week, we will be starting Phase 4 in phonics, which means that we will not be introducing new sounds, but will be developing the children's ability to blend and segment longer words, building up adjacent consonants. We will also be learning new 'tricky' and high frequency words to add to our ever growing repertoire!

In RE, we will be learning about the Christian value of forgiveness. This will be central to our work throughout this term, as we head towards Easter and learn about the Christian beliefs surrounding Holy week.

In Maths, we will be starting a unit called 'Building 9 and 10', where we will be focusing on ordering numbers and using our knowledge of number bonds to segment the numbers to 10 into smaller parts. We will also be using the language of 'one more' and 'one less'.

In English, we will be reading Jack and the Beanstalk and will begin by learning to retell the story using actions. We will then move to ordering parts of the story and writing our own versions. We will also be keeping a close eye on the beans that we have been growing in class (don't worry - we have been in over half term to water them!) and recording their development in our bean diaries.

We are hoping to welly walk on Wednesday and will be taking part in a Spring scavenger hunt!
