This Week in Dexter Class
What an action packed first term it has been! It is hard to believe that these wonderful little learners have only been at school for 8 weeks. They have already shown such progress in their reading, writing and understanding of maths, as well as a wealth of development across the foundation stage areas.
This week, we will be learning the sounds h, b, f and ff, and will be learning to spell the tricky words go, no, and to. We will be continuing to develop accurate letter formation, high frequency word recognition for reading, and blending and segmenting skills.
In maths, we will be focusing on the numbers 2 and 3 and will be using the mastery approach to understand conservation of number and order irreverence (how if nothing is added or taken away, it doesn't matter what order we count objects in, it is still the same amount), and how numbers are made of composite parts (ie there are 3 ones in 3).
In RE, we are making comparisons between how people of different beliefs show that they love and care for each other. We will be learning about the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan, where siblings celebrate their love of each other. We will be making our own rakhi bracelets, which will, no doubt, require our perseverance and concentration.
We will also be returning to The Parable of the Sower, during our spirituality session, and will be reflecting on what we can do to help to spread God's love and help others to succeed.
In Literacy, we will be reading Room on the Broom and looking at the value of friendship as well as developing our understanding of rhyme and chronological order.
