This week in Dexter class

This week we are practicing our Harvest Song, Cauliflowers Fluffy, and some of the children will be performing this in Church on Sunday, so do come along to see them if you can. We will be joining with the Playgroup to represent the Early Years community of Amberley.

On Friday we attended our first Celebration assembly and awarded Golden Book certificates to four children who had really demonstrated their Learning Powers, 'never give up' and 'cooperating'. I was extremely proud of all the children for taking an interest in both the Worship and Golden Book assemblies, well done everyone!

We are continuing to look at the work of Oliver Jeffers and have been carrying out some 'Big Talk' activities which help children to retrieve information by listening to the story, by looking at the illustrations and also encourages them to talk about what they think, make predictions and ask questions.

As the children learn more sounds and start to blend them together during our Phonics lessons, some are choosing to write their own messages, signs, cards and even make tickets for plays. It is lovely to see them using what they are learning and putting it in to practice during the day.

In Maths, we are looking at repeating patterns as well as shapes and numbers in the environment and later in the week we will be printing our own patterns using natural materials.
