This week in Dexter class

This week we are continuing looking at minibeasts and hoping that our caterpillars become chrysalis. We will also be rewriting the middle and end of our class story Superworm. I am modelling some sentences to the children and then I am encouraging them to write simple sentences independently which can be read by themselves and others. So far the standard of writing is good quality and I am looking forward to showing some examples to a group of EYFS teachers within the DGAT family at a moderation meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

In phonics we are continuing with revising our new phase 5 sounds including ai/ay and oo/ue/ew alternatives. Thank you for supporting children with their spelling practise and reading, it is amazing how far they have come since starting in September.

It continues to be hot so we are encouraging the childre4n to wear hats, find shade and drink LOTS of water. Please no squash or juice as this is not suitable for drinking constantly throughout the day.

This week In RE Mrs Smith is hoping to take the children to Amberley Church to discuss how being in a place of worship makes people feel.

We will be continuing with our handwriting practise focusing on the correct starting ;points and formation of the long leg' family.

Our maths focus at the moment continues with some early division skills and we are looking at odds and evens , grouping into pairs and practising counting in 2. This is so we can recognise what the odd and even numbers are and why. We will be carrying out lots of practical activities to help us understand these concepts.

Finally, we are all looking forward to Sports Day on Friday and I hope to see you there. It is always a highlight of the Summer for the children and we have the Summer Sizzler event afterwards held by the PTA to look forward to as well.
