This Week in Belted Galloway class

This week we will be starting a number of new topics. In English, we will be beginning our next block of writing, which will be a fiction based one. We will be focusing on the 'Exploding a Moment' idea, where a writer moves through an event in slow-motion, allowing the reader to read experience the event. We will be doing this to release the children from over-planning plots and adding layers of complication: through this techniques, they can really focus on their writing, and have fun with emotions and senses. They will then move on to writing simply plotted stories, with the focus on adding detail and depth. In Maths, we will be starting a lengthy block of work on fractions, initially working on the concept of fractions and the power of equivalence. On Thursday, the children will be taking part in a GECKO Maths challenge: for those of you who don't know, GECKO Maths is a collaborative and co-operative problem solving activity which is tremendously challenging and engaging. We are all looking forward to Thursday!
