The Week in Dexter Class

This week in Dexter Class, we will be learning the sounds l, ss and ll, and developing our ability to blend and segment sounds into words which can be read and spelled. We will also be continuing to learn high frequency words for sight reading.

IN RE, we will be learning about the Christian Harvest Festival and making connections with the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We will be building our sukkah and creating creatures from harvest produce.

In English, we will be reading Pumpkin Soup, by Helen Cooper, ordering the story and creating story maps, as well as thinking about the characters and what they might be thinking at different points in the story.

In maths, we will be introducing the numbers 2 and 3. Whilst this may seem fairly basic, understanding the concept of a number, its composite parts and the various forms we may see the number used in, helps children to build a solid foundation for mathematics. There is so much more to maths that counting! We will be using the BBC series Numberblocks and your children may enjoy watching the episodes again at home.
