This week in Hereford Class

We hope that you had a restful half term and caught up on some much needed rest. We are looking forward to beginning our Nativity over the next few weeks where we will be doing a lot of rehearsals in order to make the show as fantastic as previous years. Once we receive the nativity licence, script and songs, we will begin to give out parts. Year 2 children will have any main speaking roles and Y1 children will support.

We are beginning a new topic in RE where we will be exploring our Christian Value of 'Truthfulness.' We will be looking at 'The day that changed everything' in order to support our understanding of the value as well as the fable 'The boy who cried wolf.' The children will also explore why Christmas is important for Christians and the preparations involved in the lead up to it.

In maths, Y2 are looking at adding and subtracting tens to any given number. Children are encouraged not to count in 1s to add 10, but to remember that we add to the ten's digit and the one's digit remains the same. Y1 are continuing to add and subtract and understand calculations using the symbols add, subtract and equals.

We are finishing our unit on non-chron reports this week where we will write a whole report about Amberley School using all that we have learned. Y2 children will be encouraged to paragraph this, using subtitles.

We begin our new Art topic where we will be painting. We will be learning the skills of mixing colours;adding black and white to create tones and thinking about using the appropriate sized paintbrush, all in the style of L.S Lowry.
